Oppose racist and fascist EDL ‘Angels’ at Downing Street

UAF is calling a protest against a planned demonstration by the English Defence League at Downing Street on Saturday 8 October.

The EDL is an organisation of racists and fascists – its so-called ‘Angels’ women’s divisions are no exception.

They want to take their message of anti-Muslim racism and hatred to Downing Street. UAF is calling a counter-protest, which will be led by women, against the EDL racists and fascists.

Join the UAF counter-protest to show your opposition to the EDL. Their poisonous racist and fascist ideas and their attempts to divide our communities and stir up hatred against Muslims have nothing to offer women – or men.

Victory over EDL in Tower Hamlets: they did not pass!

Thousands of antifascists, trade unionists and members of the local community marched in victory through Whitechapel today after the English Defence League failed in its bid to demonstrate in Tower Hamlets.

Only around 600 members of EDL made it to their final rally point – at Aldgate, outside the Tower Hamlets borough boundary in East London.

The racists and fascists of the EDL had bragged that they were coming to the heart of Tower Hamlets – “marching into the lion’s den” in the multiracial, multicultural borough. Despite a national mobilisation, they failed utterly.

Electric

Instead the day belonged to antifascists and antiracists, with an electric atmosphere of solidarity as white, black and Asian people, of all religions and none, came together.

Tower Hamlets protest against the Racist English Defence League is on

Despite the ban on them marching the English Defence League have made it clear that they will be holding a static protest in Tower Hamlets on Saturday 3 September.

Unite Against Fascism and United East End will therefore be going ahead with its planned protest. However we have changed our assembly point. The details are:

11am, Saturday 3 September. Corner of Whitechapel Road and Vallance Road (near the East London Mosque) London E1
