Tower Hamlets protest against the Racist English Defence League is on

Despite the ban on them marching the English Defence League have made it clear that they will be holding a static protest in Tower Hamlets on Saturday 3 September.

Unite Against Fascism and United East End will therefore be going ahead with its planned protest. However we have changed our assembly point. The details are:

Coach drop of points

We are asking all coaches to drop of  along Vallance Road, however coaches will be asked to park outside the borough and return between 4pm – 5pm to pick people up a the same location. If you haven’t booked your coach ticket please do so as soon as possible, details can be found on the UAF website.

Our protest will also be an anti racist celebration. Our sister organisation Love Music Hate Racism will be organising a music festival which will follow the speakers. So far Nitin Sawhney, Nihal, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and Josh will be performing at the event.

10k appeal – can you help?

We badly need money to organise Saturday’s protest and carnival. We have launched a 10k financial appeal. So far we have raised over 6k – any amount will be gratefully received, so please rush your donations to us as soon as possible: http://sept3

And finally – come along to the LMHR gig the night before the EDL come to town

On Friday September 2nd Rich Mix in London’s East End plays host to a celebration of the musician, poet, and activist Gil Scott-Heron. Influenced by soul, jazz, blues and the spoken word, Scott-Heron was one of the few artists to seamlessly mix music and politics; Speaking out against racism and inequality and influencing a whole generation of musicians and fans.

There are better days ahead will pay tribute to his legacy and also celebrate the diverse and multicultural East End.

Artist confirmed include People’s Army (featuring Logic), Pandit G (Asian Dub Foundation), Mike Rosen (Poet) and Zita Holbourne (Poet).
