Keep the Racist-Fascist EDL Out Of the Gay Village, this Sat 23rd, 12 midday at junction of Canal St/Chorlton Street.

The anti-Muslim English Defence League (EDL) are coming to Canal Street and the Village this Saturday 23rd July. They want to pose as friends of LGBT people, while spreading a message of hatred that seeks to blame Muslims for the homophobia that many LGBT people face.
The criminal Murdoch press has spent decades spreading vile bigotry against LGBT people - not Muslims. It was the previous Tory regime that brought in the hated anti-gay Clause 28 legislation and many of today's cabinet of Tory millionaires voted against scrapping it. It wasn't Muslims who made LGBT people feel like second-class citizens throughout years of unequal age-of-consent laws. And it's not the fault of Muslims that many LGBT people are under pressure to keep quiet about their sexuality at work or in social situations.
We need unity against bigotry, whoever is peddling it, and whoever is the target. Join us at midday on Saturday at the junction of Canal Street and Chorlton Street to spread the word - Racists And Fascists Not Welcome Here! We'll have a special leaflet and badges.
PS The EDL often wear horrible pink tops with EDL militia-style insignia on, so you can probably spot them. Tell the door staff at any venue that they're trouble - ask that they be kept out.
